Really, I'm just asking this question. I don't want to discourage you from discussing it but just to realize that the simple discussion of such a topic could offend some. I guess for now, we will leave the discussion but if it should take away from the main purpose, maybe we'd close the discussion -- we just have to realize that we can discuss and share and be respectful!

The reason that some drink at a teen age is that for them as mentioned it is a "taboo", they are banned from doing it therefore they feel like they need to, it's the same thing for smoking, by disallowing someone from doing something, they will very commonly just do it even more. There is proof of this, if you look at countries such as Belgium or Germany where the drinking age is 16, people learn about proper alcohol control and are educated, there are much less alcohol related problems in those countries.

Also, why people start... Because they like the effect, what I really wonder is why people start smoking, that doesn't even have an effect...
