Judges

This is a group for the Judges of the flatclassroomproject 10-2. The project is at http://flatclassroom10-2.flatclassroomproject.org/Judges All judges are asked to view their group's videos then choose your top videos. I judge against the rubrics, time the videos, check for those COPS, and then quality of the video (law of 3rds, shoots, musical intro/outro, audio quality). My 7th graders enjoy watching the videos too.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Durff when you see here online.

Hi all,

I was called away unexpectedly for a couple days. I'll get my results in today!

I have finished judging the video groups that I was assigned and sent them off on the submission forms. I have really enjoyed this aspect of the Flat Classroom Projects as it gives another understanding to the wonderful outcomes that students achieve by being part of these projects. By shifting Anja, Julie, it has made no difference to the final four results in each category. I thought only one of the movies from GLobalisation and Outsourcing was worthy of being awarded a placing in that section.

Hello all, apologies for my absence, but I am back and working towards our Awards ceremony! Thank you for keeping the conversations alive and here and for your dedication to this task and also for your valuable feedback on all issues.
I have moved Globalization & Outsourcing by Anja QA from 2.A.4 to 6.B.1, so Anne can you take another look at this topic?

Just a reminder that there is ONE more day of judging left before I hand the results over to our meta-judge. So please can you all fill in the surveyshare with your choices no later than Thursday 17th.

I'm really sorry I haven't been communicating lately. I'm on vacation and our Internet isn't working. Were fighting now to get it set-up. If I don't have it tomorrow I will go to star bucks to judge my final category tomorrow.

Julie, Craig, and Anne,

FYI, I have finished assessing the WWW videos and completed the surveys for my top four.

I learned a lot judging these creations. What great work and effort by the students and teachers involved in these projects. The learning opportunities they present are tremendous. I send a big thank you and three cheers to everyone involved.

Regards, Dennis Richards

I agree with you, Anne. When and how students should be taking control of consciously establishing their academic digital footprint is an essential conversation that schools have to have at the policy level, with parents, and in the classrooms with students. Given that, I think that the Flat Classroom Project Privacy Guidelines need to reflect this element. Currently it reads, "Don’t give out your last name [original text in red], your phone number or your home address. This is particularly important to remember if you have a personal online journal or blog elsewhere."

Hi Dennis, in regard to last names, they are allowed to use them where it is okay with their school. So, it is hoped that those who used them, are able to do so, due to parental permission or school approval and that part, we as judges do not know. As students get older, I personally think that this is giving them a good digital footprint. So, I would continue to judge those videos and it is up to their individual teachers to deal with any issues. Any other opinions?

The privacy guidelines are clear about students not using last names. I assume students were instructed not to use them. How do we handle instances where last names are used in the video?

On another issue, Anne, I think 2.A.4 Globalization & Outsourcing by Anja QA belongs in 6.A. Can we move it or do we need Julie to do so? I sent Julie a message yesterday regarding this but haven't heard from her yet.
