I have a vision where students connect with their peers from around the world. Why? Because it's interesting. It's challenging to create global friendships, across cultures and across seas. And it's interesting to learn what other are studying. Even the very precise studies, like math, are not exact all over the world. Sometimes you need help figuring out a problem and someone from across the world, who studied it in a different way, will offer that different angle that opens your eyes. This is… Continue

I want to wish all those becoming involved in the Flat Classroom Project 2008, the very, very best for another successful project. Julie Lindsay and Vicki Davis are two amazing leaders in this type of project. Unfortunately my class and I will not be able to be involved in the Peer Review Classroom process of the Project this time due to an extended absence from the classroom for me.
To anyone who is considering becoming a Peer Review Classroom, please don't hesitate! It's an extremely rewardin… Continue
Having completed the flat classroom project, we were then asked to create a video based on the project, reviewing various aspects of the project. My topic for the video was Communication in the flat classroom. I created this video in collaboration with one of my classmates - Ameera.
This video is intended to highlight the significance of effective communication in the flat classroom project while collaborating with students from other parts of the world, also summarizi…
This documentary project was very interesting. First of all, it was much easier than the last video, firstly because we had our partners in the same country and secondly, becuase we already new what we had to do. Also, I now know that I have learned a lot about the ning, because this is what my documentary was all about. I think that this was a great way to finish this project. Also, I learned how to use Camtagia, a really good way of filming web sites. It was really fun to film with it,…
Connecting the world online
Group 1B
Story and empathy
Strengths- Every on the wiki is very simple to do once you get the hang of it . it very well organized. Its also very cool to communicate with people over the wiki.
Weaknesses - It is very dull to use in a some ways .I guess it would of been a good idea to add more color to the wiki to make it more viewable and more appealing to the eye. it didnt have the same option like ning were i could have my own page for personal messages. Continue

I was in group 8 and our topic was PLE's and Social Networking.
Whoever wrote the wiki had obviously done some research, and they
put down alot of information. Those are the strengths. However, most of
the info was about Business Networking and programs having to do with
such. Also, whoever wrote it did not appear to have had English as a
first language. A lot of the sentence structures were awkward and hard
to read. i felt like it was written by a kid in elementary school.
Also, the… Continue

All K-12 students are invited to enter this video contest. You have until February 29 to submit a 3 minute video. The theme is why digital learnign tools are important to your school or curriculum.
Why not re-edit a flat classroom video? You all have fantastic work and great ideas.
As a member of group 1B, connecting the World Online sub group Story and empathy, my job was to get across the point that there is tons of stuff to connect each other around the world. I feel that I contributed to the Wiki by showing and giving more incite on how many ,not just dives but also software to connect each other around. My video really highlighted the previous fact that there are many programs that people us…
Strengths and Weaknesses of the Wiki Page
Group 10C, Virtual Communication: The Fun Factor
The strengths of the wiki page is that it is clear and to the point. The graphics shone are relevant and the hyperlinks are there to further your knowledge. The wiki needs help on making the site personal. No one has taken it into their own hands to write about what virtual communication is like where they live. I live in a big city, Los Angeles, California, and I would love to find out what virtual commu… Continue

My Reflection for Flat Classroom Project I am in Group 9 C and our topic is Mobile and Ubiquitous. I discussed about the use of technology anywhere at anytime on the wiki discussion board. My video presented a school girl using all kind of technology to help her get through school such as using the camera to take pictures of the notes on the board or playing games to keep her entertained during class. I’ve been contacting with other group members in my group to discuss about our topic and share… Continue

reflection:
a.) I was in group 6 c, Globalization and outsourcing. My video is about what would happen if the rest of the world suddenly collapsed, and we were left with hardly anything. Everything that we outsource from other countries disappears. Everything that we take advantage of and use on a daily basis would be gone. It shows how much we really take advantage of other countries and how important they are to our satisfaction, comfort, and entertainment every single day.

Hello, I was apart of group 2c, which discussed how the World Wide Web has changed the world. I enjoyed participating on the Ning and Wiki to communicate with my partners and other classmates from my school. I participated on the Ning by posting a blog and launching a MP3 audio of my voice explaining who I am, which I’ve never done before and I honestly had a BLAST! On the wiki I left discussion tabs for my partners to read so they can have an update as to what I wanted for my video. This projec… Continue

My name is Jake F, group 5c, and my topic was “Using Web 2.0 to Share Information.” I contributed a video taken from YouTube that helped explain how web 2.0 was useful and how t was used. I did communicate with my partners over the ning although it was a bit slow because of time differences.
I would say my strengths on this project include being easily understood, I learned the value of time available time, how to be independent on work made, I learned what web 2.0 is exactly, and I now understa… Continue

My name is Jenny di Gennaro and I attend the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. During the flat classroom project I was in group four, the changing shape of information, section C, the fun factor. I personally came upon a number of difficulties, so unfortunately I have not been able to do all that was required. I did however post several discussions on the wiki ranging from a post introducing myself, to sending video clip requests to both my partners, to offering to help with their vid… Continue

As a member of group 1-A, Connecting the World Online/Design and Innovation, my project was centered entirely around the idea that the world is shrinking as growing technology continues to facilitate global communication. On this topic, I contributed to the wiki information about the growth of the internet in America specifically, and my video’s focus on instantaneous virtual travel highlighted the possible extent of future technological capabilities. Thanks to the Flat Classroom Project, I was… Continue
My name is Cynthia Chavez and my group was 3A, design and innovation for work flow software. At the start of the project, I made small changes to the wiki such as correcting grammatical errors and fixing punctuation, but I also fixed some of the hyperlinks too. I spoke sparsely with EE on the ning, but we did manage to talk about our video topics and our outsourced video requests. I requested a video clip from EE on the wiki, but I rarely posted there because I was posting on the ning.

During the time that I was involved in the Flat Classroom Project I was in the group 10C, Virtual Communication: The Fun Factor. In this time I connected to my international friends though the wiki (www.flatclassroomproject.wikispaces.com) and the ning (www.flatclassroomproject.ning.com). Through both of these sights, I was able to keep in contact with my partners and also see what my topic was about.
One of the many tasks asked of us was to make a video, and we had to use out sourced clips from… Continue

I'm from Los Angeles, CA. My group in the flatclassroom project was
4A, Changing Shape of Information: Uploading, Design and Innovation.
When I first started out on the Ning, I didn't know what to expect
from the project. I was really excited about making the videos, but I
wasn't quite sure what the videos were yet. I had fun making my audio
introduction, and I made it really cool, with special effects and
stuff. I found two of my partners pretty fast, bu… Continue
As a group the first task was to meet each other on the ning. I will have to admit that in the beginning stages of the ning process I was really unsure and somewhat slow to join the ning. Once I succeeded on this task it was quiet easy to get in contact with my group members. Though I was quiet comfortable with the ning I was not so much with the wiki. When all are work had to be done on the wiki it took me while to become very comfortable with this space. Once I set up an RSS feed and began exp… Continue
The Flat Classroom Project was a learning experience for me, pertaining to the world of wireless connectivity, Group 11A. For The Flat Classroom Project I was in group 3C and I had to make a video about The Process of Workflow: The Fun Factor. Online interaction in this project was much more successful than I thought it would be. Online interaction during this project was very interesting. It opened up a lot of different areas and fields to work with and to express ones self. There were a lot of new ideas and methods introduced to me, showing that communication can be experienced in hundreds or thousands of different ways. Using this online technology was very interesting a…
Hey I’m Maegan Mandarino and for the project, the topic for my group, 6A, was globilization and outsourcing. As far as my contribution to the Wiki, I fixed some spelling letters and added a paragraph to my topic page on outsourcing. I also communicated with my partner from Georgia, and other members of my group through the Wiki and the Ning. I left a lot of posts, really without realizing it, on the Wiki and found that the communication was definitely better when you did a lot of it.
I really en… Continue
Deanna richmond For The Flat Classroom Project I was in the group 11c in which the topic was wireless connection (fun and games.) There were a lot of strengths and learning experiences to Flat Classroom Project. I think that all the videos made were very good and show that people well underst… Continue

The flatclassroom project has definately been an interesting experience. there were good and bad points to it. i was appointed to group 8 social networks, which as a matter of a fact is part of the flatclassroom project! the ning and wikispace were both essential for communication between groups, teachers, and your partners. me and my other partner and i have been constantly communicating on the ning from the start of the year...helping each other try to understand what exactly was asked of u…
My thoughts on online interaction during the project:
Well, the ning and wiki were very useful because it gave us a place where we can all discuss and talk about the project. Because of the ning and wiki communicating with our partners was easy. I didn't really have any serious problems with communication, the only problem i had was that sometimes my partners would reply to my comments or discussions at all or they would reply too late. This problem can't really be solved, it depends o…

Hi, we're students from Taradale Intermediate School (aged 11-12 years old) and along with some help from our teacher Ms H, we have been looking at your Flatclassroom Project Wikispace. Congratulations on an exceptional amount of work. We enjoyed reading the wikis (although it was tough going sometimes to understand everything that we were reading) and watching the videos (especially).
We have some feedback for you, which is posted on our peer review wiki at… Continue
During this project I communicated a lot, with teachers as well as with students. Most of the times, I did so on my ning account, because I could not edit the wikispaces or the edyspaces from at home. I started quite early with the communicating and found most of my partners during the first few weeks. However I did have some problems: Not everyone was on the ning until very late in the project. So I could not contact them until very late. This of course made it very difficult to work on…
Today John Turner and 3 of his students at PLC in Melbourne ran the first Student Summit for the Flat Classroom Project 2007.

When Mrs. Vicki told our class that we would be working with students all over the world, my first thought was “How?” In Flat Classroom Project, we had to learn to work together as a team with people we had never talked to,
never seen, and never personally met. We did not know what they looked like or
how they really acted. Moreover, they knew absolutely nothing about us besides
what our news media portrays us as. Of cou…
We are proud to announce that the sister project of the Flat Classroom Project, the Horizon Project, has been nominated for an Edublogger Award for the 'Best educational wiki' for 2007. This is very exciting!
My experience so far on the project has been very interesting. I had a lot of fun making my audio introduction. I haven't found all of my partners on the Wiki yet, but I'm sure that will change. Our Wiki has many strenghts, more then weaknesses. It is very informative and intersting. To move on with the project I need to figure out my addition to the Wiki, and to do that I have to understand it better. I understand most of our Wiki, but some of it I'm still a little fuzzy on. I'm sure that will… Continue

My video, Making Work Flow in Business, is complete and ready to view on the wiki. Although it is not the best video (and I don't think it addresses Design and Innovation very much because I had no time to think about what it would be like in the future except maybe work flow being more efficient!) I did the best that I could with the time that I had. I believe that it is a decent video, though, and I am glad that I am done!
Overall, I think that this project has helped me deal with the intrica… Continue

Globalization has not only affetced China but many other Asian coiuntries like India, Bangladesh. As I am from India I have noticed a huge change in India's economy and production in these last few years. Therefore, this development is the result of the opening of the markets. Because of this expantion I…

Our MICDS AP Statistics class has created a survey addressing electronic device usage, including cell phone, video game console, Computer, TV, and MP3 player. We invite everyone to please take the survey and we will report the results.

Living in Shanghai, China, a lot of what I take part in and what I see every day is a result of outsourcing. Shanghai, a city in which new projects and new buildings seem to spring up every week, is constantly being made bigger, taller, and more advanced because of globalization. Where I live, and especially downtown, you can’t go seven kilometers without hitting another Starbucks or Pizza Hut. Really becoming internationalized, Shanghai is becoming a focal financial and business hub. Even the s… Continue
