1.Overview of Topic
The topic I was assigned during this FlatClassroom Project was Collaboration and Learning Analytics. The first thing I thought of when I got this topic was, “What in the world is this topic about?” Eventually, through research and working on my group Wiki, I learned what my topic really was about. Collaboration is working together with others to achieve a certain goal. Learning analytics is, in a nutshell, using collected data to advise and improve learning. For a more in depth definition of learning analytics, click here. The thing I found most interesting about my topic is that, this can be utilized in many ways, for many groups. The group that I feel uses learning analytics most is the educational/school system. Schools are constantly trying to find innovational ways to improve students learning and grades. With learning analytics, school boards can adjust the way their students learn. A very good example of this is that this week, I am taking a Biology exam required by all biology students to take. The reasoning behind this test is to find out what the students learned and didn’t learn, and adjust the curriculum to improve our learning further. More information on learning analytics can be found here.
2.Wiki Editing Process
It was a major struggle when it came to my groups wiki. I had many struggles when it came to the editing. My biggest problem was that I was initially on the wrong wiki group. There was a hyperlink on the side of the home page of the flat classroom wikis labeled after my wiki group, so I assumed it was my group. I later discovered it was for the collaboration and internet of things group. I eventually found my group. By the time I found my group, almost all of the wiki editing had bee complete. This gave me a big challenge because I had such a limited area to add my own information. Luckily I managed to add a sufficient amount of information to my group wiki.
3.Outsourced Video-
3a) The outsourced video I made was pretty specific. Salim_ISA, the person who requested the video had pretty detailed directions. Salim_ISA asked me to create a video of someone using their smartphone to look at migration patterns. I believe I successfully achieved this. Even so, Salim_ISA did not use my outsource video in his final video. To See Salim_ISA’s video, click here.
3b) The outsourced video I requested was pretty simple and to he point. I asked for two people in the shot. I asked for one of the people to say “I learn best by reading” and for the other to say “I learn best by visualization”. Thankfully I received this video. I did use the outsource clip I received because my teacher told me we had to. I regret having to use it although it was what I was looking for. I feel it sort of ruined the theme of my video (my video had no speaking except for my outsource video). To go to the maker of my outsource video, AndreiG_SVHS, click here.
4.Final Video-
In all honesty, going into this project I had no idea how I was going to make my final video. I found it somewhat confusing until I started trying to plan it out. Once I gathered all my information, the idea and theme of my video fell into place. When I finally finished my video, I believe I did a pretty good job on it. I worked pretty hard to coordinate and design everything to make it an enjoyable and explanatory video through visualization. If there was something I could change about my video it would be my outsource video. It ruins the consistency of my video. But my teacher told me I was required to use an outsource video so I used it. Another thing I would change about my video would be my information. I feel my video could have used a tad more information to give a much more in-depth explanation of what my topic was.
There are numerous videos on this website that deserve appraisal. One of those videos was made by someone from my school. That person was KristenS_AAHS. I completely loved her video. It used many visuals to explain her topic in a fun and interesting way. I highly believe Kristens_AAHS’s video deserves recognition. To see the video, click here. Someone’s video from outside of my school hat I believe deserves recognition is Jasminev_WCTA’s video. It had amazing graphics and very explanatory definitions of her topic. I believe this video deserves recognition as well. To watch Jasmines video, click here.
