In this video, Thomas Friedman talks about his book The World Is Flat. Somewhere in his speech he talks about how the world is outsourcing and at first I didn't know what this term meant. Outsourcing is subcontracting a service such as manufacturing or product design to a third-party company. When a person makes the decision to outsource they normally have the idea of lowering a cost, conserving energy, or to make efficient use of land. Another thing he talked about was flatteners. Three key flatteners were one, PC. The PC flattener means that individuals can author their own content in digital form. The second flattener was a date, 8/9/95. This date is important because it marks the day Netscape went public. This happening triggered the dot.com boom and everyone started buying dot.com websites. The third flattener was everyone's computer and software became interoperable. Things could now be uploaded and not just downloaded. People could now get much more productivity out of their computer.
